Are You Sure You Are Registered to Vote??

 

If you think you registered to vote at the Department of Motor Vehicles, a special event, via a web site or some other means and you don't have a voter information card confirming your registration, please call your local registration office before the registration deadline to verify your registration status! Don't miss out on being able to vote because you are not registered! Please also call your local office if you don't know where your polling place is.

All Virginia voters are required to present identification when they come to vote. Not only does this help preserve the integrity of the election process, but it also helps you get through the line faster since the election officers are be able to find your name more quickly!

Acceptable forms of ID include:

• Your voter information card
• Your Virginia driver's license
• Your Social Security card
• Any form of identification issued by the government of the U.S., Virginia, or any Virginia town, city, or county
• An employer-issued ID card with your photograph
  

If you forget to bring your ID to the polls, don't worry! You'll still be able to vote after you sign a statement confirming your identity.

Exception: If you registered to vote by mail after January 1, 2003, you are required to show a specific form of ID the first time you vote in a federal election. Acceptable forms of ID include a current photo ID, or a current document (utility bill, paycheck stub, or other document) with your name and current address printed. If you are required to produce ID under this provision and are unable to do so, you will be offered a conditional (provisional) ballot to vote. Provisional ballots are not counted on Election Day but are examined by the local electoral board the day after the election, who determines whether or not the ballots will be counted.
